STEAM Camp at FLPL in July

Registration Link

FLORENCE – Florence Arts and Museums is thrilled to partner with the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library to launch a STEAM Camp for students in ages 11-18 from Monday–Friday, July 14–18.

The camp will be divided into two groups based on age: Group 1: ages 11-14, 9am-12:30pm;

Group 2: ages 15-18, 1-4:30pm.

This camp will offer students the chance to develop projects focused on Claymation, graphic design, printmaking, and historical artifacts.

In the Claymation class on Monday and Tuesday, students will create an original story using Claymation characters. They’ll have the chance to write a script, design characters, and film their own short film. Following the Claymation class, students will dive into the world of graphic design by learning design principles, creating mood boards, and developing projects like book covers, posters, and social media graphics.

Students will explore printmaking and artifact creation on Wednesday and Thursday. In the printmaking class, students will learn about different techniques and use materials like bubble wrap, cardboard, and ink to design their own masterpieces. They will also design 3D printed stamps to incorporate into their artwork. Following that, in the artifact making class, students will identify artifacts from Pope’s Tavern to research. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to create 3D replicas of their artifacts.

On Friday, both groups will meet from 9am-12:30pm to conclude the camp with an exhibit showcase for parents and community members at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.

Registration is $25 per student and the fee is nonrefundable. Registration opened on April 14 at www.florencealmuseums.com/steam.

This program is sponsored by the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library and Florence Arts and Museums.
