Hand Made Eskimo Moose Handle Knife |
Aoroung 1978, while living in Sitka, Alaska, I met a guy who was an Eskimo. His wife worked at the Native Hospital where I was working. He liked the stained glass work that I was doing so we worked out a swap. Every year he would go moose hunting and then use the antlers for knife handles. We traded 2 of my stained glass pieces for 2 of his 7" long hand made knives and leather sheaths. At the time my brother-in-law Jan was still in the military flying helicopters. I gave him one of the knives for a gift and he carried it with him in his helicopter. The other knife I have saved all of these years and will belong to my grandson Austin since it was given to Galahad years ago.
I made 2 "Hummingbird" windows like this one, and traded them for 2 knives.
